Background: Corticosteroid is a medication widely used in the treatment of the chronic inflammatory diseases of the oral mucosa. Treatment with cortisone is complicated with the secondary oral candidiasis. The purpose of this study was to find the efficacy of a combined therapeutics (cortisone and antifungal) in the treatment of chronic oral lesions. Materials and methods: Eighteen patients were selected for this study, and they were divided into three groups. The Pl group received combined therapeutics (cortisone and antifungal), the 2nd group received cortisone only and the 3rd group received placebo. Results: The results showed that fungal infection in 42% of the 2nd group and there was no evidence of infection in group which received combined therapy. In addition, the clinical signs and symptoms were improved. Conclusions: These findings suggest the use of an anti fungal in the management of chronic oral lesion that requires prolong administration of cortisone. |
